Long Branch Beach is one of the most popular New Jersey beaches. This beautiful resort town is located just an hour away from New York City and offers an artistic vibe, high-end accommodations, and wide sandy beaches. In this guide, we'll tell you all about it!

History

Long Branch was one of the first beach resorts in the US. It's been attracting visitors for over 400 years. It first came to be in the late 18th century and eventually developed into a hotspot for all kinds of beachgoers.

During the 19th Century, it became a specific beach destination for presidents, eventually hosting presidents: Arthur, Garfield, Grant, Harrison, Hayes, McKinley, and Wilson. To this day, you can still visit the Church of the Presidents, the only remaining structure still standing from that time.

Long Branch’s colorful history spread across the country when William Harris moved from Jersey to Kansas and opened the legendary Long Branch Saloon in 1875. During the 20th century, Long Branch’s space and friendly atmosphere started attracting a wide range of immigrants, and prominent Irish, Italian, and Jewish populations settled there.

Although Hurricane Sandy devastated most of Jersey Shore, Long Beach Island and Sea Bright protected Long Branch from severe damage. Since it was left relatively unharmed, many in the area flock to Long Branch.

Ever since, it's become more and more popular. Today, there are about 30,000 permanent residents. And, more than 2 million visitors come every summer.
