Dania Beach is a historical city in Southeast Florida, and it's home to one of the prettiest beaches in Florida. It's a popular vacation destination with so many activities to enjoy at and away from the shore. Keep reading to learn all about this fun town and beautiful beach!

If you're flying into Florida, Dania Beach is the perfect spot because it's right next to the Fort Lauderdale International Airport. It's also close to the popular city of Hollywood, Florida.

History

As the first city in Broward County, Dania Beach has a long and rich historical past and boasts some of Broward County's firsts. Its history dates back to the 1880s when the Florida East Coast Railway was built.

The railway accessibility is what started the town's colonization. It was called Modello and became incorporated and renamed Dania in 1904.

By 1912, Dania Beach had over 1,000 residents. It continued to grow in the 1920s until the city had some setbacks, including fire and a hurricane.

Today, Dania Beach is home to over 30,000 residents and is a thriving community shaped by its history. It's also famously known as "The Tomato Capital of the World" and "Antique Capital of the South." Be sure to check out Antique Row if you're on the hunt for antique treasures!

The city is also home to various businesses and attractions, and it's a popular location for visitors and residents to explore. Hotels, vacation rentals, restaurants, and shops make it an excellent place to stay during a visit to South Florida.

Where to Stay

You can find plenty of accommodations, including hotels, bed and breakfasts, and vacation rentals. We highly recommend checking out The Desoto Ocean View Inn, a charming hidden gem close to the beach. With that said, there are several spots around the beach and many along the highway just a couple of miles from the beach.

Attractions

There's no shortage of activities for travelers and locals to enjoy in Dania Beach. Here's are some of the best recommendations for things to do.

Ocean Park Beach at Dania Beach

Of course, the beach itself is a must-visit. This amazing beach is known for its soft white sand, turquoise blue water, gentle waves, and picture-perfect views.

Beachgoers enjoy swimming, watching wildlife, sunbathing, and hunting for seashells at the beach. There's also a pier that's excellent for catching fish and taking in the scenery.

For a special treat, be sure to stick around the beach for sunset.

Hollywood Dog Beach

Pet owners can take a break from Dania Beach and head a mile north to Hollywood Dog Beach. Let your dog join other furry friends and play on the shore and in the waters.

Dania Pointe

Rainy beach days are no problem when you can hang out at Dania Pointe! This large shopping center boasts shops, restaurants, and entertainment. Make it a quick stop on your trip or spend the day.

Dr. Von D. Mizell-Eula Johnson State Park

Adjacent to Dania Beach is Dr. Von D. Mizell-Eula Johnson State Park. This beautiful waterfront park is named for Dr. Von D. Mizell, one of Florida's most renowned early conservationists, and Eula Johnson, the first African American woman to hold a commercial fishing license in the state of Florida.

The park offers the opportunity to check out a nearby beach, where you can enjoy swimming, boating, fishing, cycling, and hiking.

Dania Beach Fishing Pier

As we mentioned, Dania Beach Fishing Pier is a favorite spot for anglers and offers stunning views of the Atlantic Ocean.  You can also find a bait shop and popular restaurant for seafood on the pier, too. You can either bring your own fishing gear or rent them on the pier.

Fishing Charters

Interested in a unique fishing experience? You can find several fishing charter companies in Dania Beach for an excursion out in Fort Lauderdale and surrounding Atlantic Ocean waters.

Secret Woods Nature Center

Enjoy nature away from the shore at Secret Woods Nature Center, where you can find various flora and fauna, including over 200 species of birds. Walk along the boardwalk above the mangroves to learn more about the animals and plants in the area.

Tigertail Lake Recreational Center

Tigertail Lake is Broward County's popular rec center with tons of activities for the public. Located on a 5-acre lake, visitors can enjoy fishing, kayaking, paddleboarding, obstacle courses, and more. Fun for the whole family or friends outing!
